Basted, Quilted and ready for Binding

9:30 am, the day begins
I had to add this blue strip to the back this morning :)
My son got a hold of the camera and of course took a picture of my FLAT bum ;D
I am basting the quilt sandwich with my favorite curved safety pins.
The quilt was so big, that laying on it was the easiest way to baste it.
The following were taken by my 6 year old.  I figured I aught to include them :)

These are his piggies.
Now we are back to my pictures.  Here is my station set up on the kitchen table.  I have recently given up diet Pepsi, but I just had to have one to get through this BIG quilt with a little Mama's Helper ;D

A close up of the FMQ

 The quilting is FINISHED!!! ;D

You can sort of see the flower quilting in this picture.

The binding is all cut and waiting to be sewn.
The quilt is all trimmed and just waiting for the binding.
One more of my son's pictures.  Man, a lot changes in 22 years ;D

  1. That is really pretty!

Question. How in the world do you FMQ in the middle of that size of quilt without losing your mind?!

    1. Lots and LOTS of deep breathing and lots of prying my shoulders away from my ears ;) Did you see the GIANT diet Pepsi? ;) Every time I took a pin out I got to have a sip. I ran out with about a fifth left to do :( That bad boy took 5 prewound bobbins. Most of the 60x78 quilts I do take 3. ....I think I have tennis elbow :(

  2. Ugh. I was afraid you'd say things like that. I was hoping you'd say, "Oh, when you've practiced a bit it is a total breeze!" :D

Myra, it really isn't that bad. You just have to tell yourself that it is alright and to chill. No stressing. It really wasn't that bad. It just look a lot longer ;)

  8. You know, I've never thought of lying on the quilt to do the basting. I sort of squat - in a very inelegant sort of way, with body fat squishing out in all directions. On your tummy - well, it's all tucked in. That is a delicious selection of fabrics - and I love the floral applique is it?? And then the quilting just helps to set it all off. Well done
