Karen's Quilt

Three years ago my good friend Chrisann's mother (Karen) died of Multiple Myeloma.  I don't have to tell you that this was heart breaking for Chrisann and her family.

Earlier this year, Chrisann asked me if I might be able to make quilts from her mom's clothes.  Chrisann and her siblings thought that a quilt out of her clothes would be the perfect Christmas present for their dad.

Chrisann and her sister went to her parents home and picked out some clothes that went well together.  As fate would have it, Karen had mostly red, white and blue clothes :)

Karen also loved her designer clothes.  I saved the tags from the clothes and put them here and there on the quilt.

I was thinking this quilt looked a little Ralph Lauren ;D

For the backing, we used a navy minky, super soft and cuddly :)

It was very interesting to make this quilt.  VERY emotional!

I was surprised at how hard it was to cut into Karen's clothes.  Karen was very loved by her family and she loved them so very much as well.

Hopefully this quilt will provide a little snugly comfort.

Linking up with Amanda Jean over at Crazy Mom Quilts :)

  1. This is so beautiful and so thoughtful. I love how you incorporated the labels into the quilt.

  2. This is very sweet! I love the look of the quilt, too. I have always planned to do something like this with my grandmother's clothes when she passes, but one for me and one for my mom.

  3. What a meaningful quilt. I can understand your emotion working on it since working on my Lost Soldier Boy quilts this last year when my daughter lost her fiance over in Afghanistan just days before they were to get married. I'm sure your friend can't begin to let you know how much this quilt must mean to her.

  4. Beautiful way to treasure memories. I think it will bring a tear to his eye when he opens it. Such a lovely gift from his children.
