Here is a mini picture tutorial of how to make the pinwheels. Start with the squares in whatever size you'd like :) These are 8" squares from my Modern Quilt Guild swap. They make a 10" pinwheel.
You are going to need a contrasting fabric cut into the same size squares.
Next, place a white one with a print one together, right sides together.
Sew around all four sides with a 1/4" seam.
Then cut from corner to corner one way....
And without moving the square, cut the other way, corner to corner.
Ta da!!
Now you have a bunch of cute triangles :)
Press toward the print... or the white, just press them all the same way :)
Now for trimming the little dog ears...
Lay them out.... be sure that you sew the blocks all in the same direction... trust me, it matters ;D
Take care to match all of your points and seams :)
Here are my cute rows...
Here is the top all sewn and bunched up :)
The top is basted.
The back... ..yes! That is a GIANT pinwheel :)
Quilting....
I have a little bit more quilting to do tomorrow.... stay tuned :D
BeaYOOtiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great idea for making pinwheels! I have a pinwheel quilt on my to-do list, but I hesitated with the plan I had (making HST's from my charms). Now I'm glad I did! I'm going to dig into this tonight. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt is super fast and easy :) the only thing that some people don't like is that with the way the hst are cut, you end up with all of the edges on the bias. I like it because there is no need to trim the hst's... a tug here and there makes everything square and match up :) I really like the method. Super fast!!!
DeleteYour pillow IS pretty cute! And the quilt is coming along awesome!
ReplyDeleteAwesome tutorial! I love pinwheels!
