Scrappytripalong is FINISHED!!! :D

Oh baby, stick a fork in it, IT'S DONE!!  ....all 96" x 108" of it....SEVENTY-TWO 12" blocks, ALL 2,592 TWO inch squares!!!

The Saturday after Christmas, an impromptu quilt along blew up all over Instagram.  I watched for two days, and then I just couldn't stand it anymore :)  You can read more about my scrappy-trip HERE.

.

I started to make this beast on New Year's Eve and I finally finished it yesterday :)

This quilt is for MY bed :)

The fabric I used for this ALL came from my stash.  Most of it is old scraps from projects years ago.

I decided to make sure that there was a black row in the middle of each block.  It made me feel more comfortable with all of the wild scrappiness ;D

For the back and the binding I did have to buy new fabric.  I hit the clearance rack at Gracie Lou's.  These are three fabrics that I have been eyeing for a while now.  They have the PERFECT amount of funkiness for this scrappy monster!

For the binding, I found this black and white text print from the GREASE fabric line ...also on the clearance wall ;)

Now I just need to come up with Euro pillow shams to match.... hmmm, what ever shall I do?

Scrappy is Quilted & Getting Bound

For the quilting on this baby, I tried my hand at an orange peel fmq using Oh Fransson's tutorial HERE

It was pretty easy, especially with the 2" squares as a built in guide.

With all of the wedding plans going on around here, AND all of the illness, I could only get in a little quilting here and there.

This afternoon, I finally felt well enough to get the quilting all finished :)

For the binding, I am using this WILD Grease (you know the musical) text fabric that was on the clearance rack at Gracie Lou's.

It's even is printed on the bias!

I'll work on the hand sewing here and there.  There is just SO much to do!!!

A bit of this... a bit of that..

Pressing tops :)

Pressing with yummy Cherry Blossom Best Press :)

Aren't they cozy and cute?

I was worried that my daughters wedding quilt would be too small for our Cal king bed...

Not so!  It fits great :)

As soon as the tops were pressed, April and I hit Gracie Lou's for backs for both quilts :)
I'm not showing you pic's today, just know that the backs are WILD and AWESOME!! ;D

Finally I made a block for a new IG qal (#xplusaong).  I was going to resist, but I am not sure I can.  I made this mock up out of UGLY charm squares :)  I'd like to make it out of a beautiful layer cake Konda gave me a while ago.  My pattern needs some tweaking to get it just right :)

Scrappytripalong Top is FINISHED!! :)

This journey started on New Year's Eve.  I was going to make it 6x6...

I had "all" of the blocks finished on New Year's day when I decided it needed to be BIGGER!

I now needed to make 28 more blocks so I dug into my stash yet again.  With wedding plans all around, I didn't get many chances to work on it :(

Finally on Friday I was able to finish up the 28 blocks (which actually ended up being only 27, go figure...some day I will find the missing block).  Friday I laid out and sewed up 4 and 1/2 rows and then went to see Breaking Dawn with my hubby.

Saturday morning I decided to try out one of the 4 sewn rows to see if the size would be ok.  It was PERFECT for the length, but it was a bit short across the top. :(  I would need to make 8 more blocks to fit our California King size bed :p  Fortunately, I had only sewn up 4 and a half of the original rows.  I relaid out the rest of the un-sewn rows and mixed in the new 8 blocks.

My 7 year old calls this the "heart" quilt :)
I REALLY love this quilt top :)

I am thinking about using my grandmothers old sheets for the backing.  I am also pretty sure I am going to try an orange peel fmq.  Now I need to get it in gear and get my daughters wedding quilt finished :)

This quilt is made using the tutorial over at QuiltVille HERE.

The one modification I made was to make sure that there was a black strip in each strip set.  Then when clipping the little loops, just make sure the black squares form the center diagonal :)

Daughter's Wedding... Sister's Baby.... not so much sewing :(

A midst all of the excitement, I haven't had my much needed "me time" sewing :(  I suppose that is ok ;D

I woke up EARLY Wednesday morning and sneaked in some sewing on my #scrappytripalong quilt :)

Here is where I stand with the quilt:
One block left to be sewn into a tube :)

12 blocks sewn into tubes and needing to be cut, clipped and arranged :)

15 blocks all picked and arranged waiting to be sewn up :D

I seriously cannot wait to get this quilt finished!!!

So why the "no-sew" zone around here?

Wedding: engagement photo shoot, order invites, address invites, design and order guest sign in book, etc!

Aren't they cute?

AND on top of all of the wedding excitement.... my sweet sister's baby arrived EARLY this week!

I spent Wednesday at the hospital with my sister.  Baby Hadley is doing GREAT but my sister is not :(  She had a REALLY terrible day yesterday and hopefully things will improve soon.  Her uterus is still so large that it is crushing her kidneys and causing excruciating pain :(   So, I spent the whole day with her yesterday running tests until her hubby could get there.  We didn't get to spend much time with baby boo :(

Today is "sewing Anna's wedding quilt" day!!!  ....mail the invites day.... and I think that is it!

Last night we also met with Annette (my AWESOME quilting sewing friend Annette) to arrange for the alterations for the wedding dress :)

RUSH RUSH RUSH!!!

It's 5:42 am and I need to get in the shower and CLEAN the house before my sewing bff's show up.  Being gone for a whole day makes the house something to be reckoned with! :p
