The Notting Hill Asterisk

(Are you ready for TOO many pictures?)

It is finished and on it's way to my customer.

I have to say that I don't want this one to leave my house, EVER!

The quilt pattern is "Modern Asterisk" by Kimberly Bourne (Get links HERE)

The majority of the fabric is from Joel Dewberry, specifically his Notting Hill Collection. (Get links HERE)

The quilting was done by the FABULOUS Stacy Simmons.

Stacy is OVER THE TOP ah-MAZING!!!

The top was all done with foundation piecing.

It was not difficult, but is was VERY time consuming.

I watched 6 episodes of Drop Dead Diva while I removed the paper from just the small asterisks :/

I am TOTALLY in love!

This quilt is for a customer back east.  It is for her sweet daughter.

I am really thinking about making one of these for myself.

...but it isn't likely to happen :(

For the binding & label, I used "Banded Bliss" from Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill Collection

The customer requested minky for the backing.

With all of the color choices available, we went with a soft butter yellow.

The soft yellow is perfect to compliment the crazy colors of the top.

I am going to miss this quilt!!

Fabric:  Nearly all of the fabric was designed by Joel Dewberry from his Notting Hill Collection, ....and a few other of his collections.  Two of the chartreuse fabrics were not Joel's.

The white background fabric was "Bleached White" in the Bella Solid collection by Moda

Lila Mae's Baby Quilt

This DARLING (if I do say so myself) baby quilt is for my daughters new niece, Lila Mae.

I probably love it so much because green is my FAVORITE color :)

I used half square triangles, made with my tutorial HERE.  The design was inspired by Kristin's quilt over at SadieBird blogged HERE

For the backing I used some 1970 grandma stash from April.

Here is a closeup of the backing and the daisy fmq :)

I will make this baby again real soon!

This quilt is 45" square.

I used 7-1/2" white and green squares to form my nearly 5" (4-7/8") half square triangles.  

The quilt is 10x10 hst's

Boomerang Wedding Sign In Quilt

For my daughters wedding, she wanted a quilt for the guests to sign, instead of a book.

We looked at a ton of different options, but she always came back to

  Emily Herrick's Boomerang quilt pattern.

 

I used 13 different fat quarters that I already had and a creamy yellow solid that was also 

just laying around begging to be put to use ;)

I did a sparse straight line quilting.  I will come back and quilt more after the wedding.

For the label, I used my printer and freezer paper.

The binding is mostly from Emily's newest collection, Technicolor :)

For the back, the groom wanted minky.  Thank heavens Dave's Bernina in Provo had the perfect match! ....and a special THANK YOU to Annette who happened to be in the store at the exact moment I needed it!  (She even delivered it right to my door ;)

****Back story- the day before I was supposed to give this to Ashley, I was madly trying to finish the quilt.  I only had just enough time to finish it if I didn't leave the house.  Well, suddenly I realized that I didn't have a backing :/ ...and NO time to go get one :(  I madly started calling friends to see what they had on hand.  April...nada!  Konda....something that probably would work, but..... Annette...BINGO!  She was at Bernina and found the perfect backing :)

AND, there is more!!!  So I had the quilt all the way quilted when the last row of quilting was not right :/  I didn't know what to do!  We had company coming at 6 for dinner and then we were headed to the Provo Temple with Ash and Dayan at 7.  I walked away from the sewing room and got busy with the company.  On my way to the temple, I texted April and begged her to let me borrow her spare machine.  She graciously agreed and left it on her porch for me.  We picked it up on our way home from the temple at about 10:30 pm.  I woke up early and made the binding and sewed it on.  I was able to hand sew about 3/4ths of it on and the label before the shower at 10 am :)

Ashley's Wedding Quilt

Don't go freaking out or anything... yes, this is going to be a real post :)

I have hijacked my daughters computer.  Hopefully she doesn't see the pics of her quilt I uploaded before I give her the quilt tomorrow at her bridal shower :)

This quilt took me longest to make so far.

I began this quilt as a bom with my church group in September 2012.

Becky Morganson designed this quilt for a Block Party at Stitches & Sew Forth.

I did deviate with the layout and I added 5 more pieced blocks.

I really wanted my setting blocks to form an Irish Chain design verses the squares that Becky had designed.

I also wanted my yellow 1" squares to be scrappy :)

For the quilting I did a cross hatch straight line with fmq borders and zig-zags around the Dresden blocks.

In the white section of the borders I went for an art deco fmq thing-ie ;D

In the outer borders I attempted feathers.  I am super happy with how they turned out :)

 

It is a little easier to see the quilting on the back.

I have been saving this label for a very special quilt :)

I also had to make a "real" label so I tried my hand at printing one on my printer.

It totally worked :)

This quilt ended up 119"x109".

It's HUGE!!!

I sure hope she loves it!

Now to make her "sign in" quilt for the reception.

(They are having the guest sign a quilt instead of a book)
