Anna's Wedding Quilt is FInSihED :)

Being sick this past week really cramped my quilting mojo :p  I am SOOOOO happy that Konda asked if she could quilt Anna's wedding quilt for her wedding gift.  I would have NEVER gotten it finished, being sick, AND Konda is such an AMAZING la quilter :)
(Long story short, I had a few other quilting friends offer to quilt it for me :)  Aren't I a lucky gal?)

***NEWS FLASH!!  Today is the one year anniversary of me learning how to quilt!!!  One year ago today I decided to start quilting :)  You can read about my quilting adventure HERE.  This quilt is my 58th finished quilt since I started :)  You can see my finished quilts in the tabs above :) ****

We now resume our regularly scheduled programming :)

Konda picked up the quilt Tuesday and dropped it off to me Thursday morning :)

I was feeling well enough Thursday, so I hurried and made the binding and got it sewn on.

Then I curled up in bed with season 2 of Downton Abby and bound and bound and bound!!!

I even made a label :)

This quilt is a whopper, measuring in at 89.5" x 98.5"

With the help of Annette, I designed a border of HST's for two sides of the quilt.  Konda did the math, and two more rows of hst's on the two sides would make the quilt the right size to fit on a king size bed.
(You can read more about the making of this quilt HERE and HERE.)

The pattern is by Konda (over at Moose On The Porch Quilts).
It's called Charming Old Maid

You can find the pattern HERE in the Simply Charming Collection

I wanted to use a different hst technique than Konda used in her original pattern, so Konda redid the math to make my technique work ;D  Anna's wedding quilt is not made with charm squares.  We used different sized squares and that combined with the different hst technique, made this quilt unique-ish ;)

There wasn't enough of the AWESOME bird fabric, so I had to piece the back with this cool Joel Dewberry print.

It actually forms an "L" on the back... for "love" ;)

I am giving this to my daughter at her bridal shower tomorrow.  I hope she loves it as much as I do!!

A bit of this... a bit of that..

Pressing tops :)

Pressing with yummy Cherry Blossom Best Press :)

Aren't they cozy and cute?

I was worried that my daughters wedding quilt would be too small for our Cal king bed...

Not so!  It fits great :)

As soon as the tops were pressed, April and I hit Gracie Lou's for backs for both quilts :)
I'm not showing you pic's today, just know that the backs are WILD and AWESOME!! ;D

Finally I made a block for a new IG qal (#xplusaong).  I was going to resist, but I am not sure I can.  I made this mock up out of UGLY charm squares :)  I'd like to make it out of a beautiful layer cake Konda gave me a while ago.  My pattern needs some tweaking to get it just right :)

Anna's Wedding Quilt Sew Day

Thursday my quilting bff's came by to help me wrangle my daughters wedding quilt.  I am SO happy they did.  We got a TON finished today :)

This is the block.  We made 12 :)
The finished block size is 24-3/4"

Konda came at 9 and cut and pressed hst's for me.

Annette showed up next.

Konda left to educate the world in all things math and soon Shanelle arrived.

Finally, April and Sue came along to round out the fun times.

April, Annette and I sewed while Shanelle cut and pressed and Sue soon became the Queen of Pressing when Shanelle had to go.

I have arranged the blocks and will be putting them together tomorrow.  There is a hst border that needs some attention too.   ...AND I have to come up with a backing for it.

I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for these WONDERFUL ladies!!!

More about this quilt is blogged HERE.

Anna's Wedding Quilt is Underway :)

I had planned on making Anna a quilt for her wedding but thought I had some time... NOT!  The good thing about having friends who quilt is that when you need help making a quilt FAST, they are there for you! :)

This Thursday I am hosting a sew day for everyone to come and help me get the top together.  Konda has to work that day so she came over last Friday for a sew day and redesigned one of her quilts to fit a king size bed.
Charming Old Maid by Konda Lukau
(I'm not putting on borders, just lots of stars and hst's)

It was so awesome to have her work out all of the math!!

There are definite bonus's to having a math professor for a quilting buddy ;)

Don't perfectly cut squares make such cute piles?

AND she CUT THE WHOLE THING OUT!!!

I can't wait to see it come together :)
