Red & White Pinwheel FINISHED :)

Preview...

But wait, I have a few things to share before we get to the quilt :)  First off, I have to show you my UPS delivery :)

I got the front package on Monday from the Fat Quarter Shop and the one in the back came this afternoon.  I am all ready for the Super Mario QAL over at Cut To Pieces.

Man, this quilt is going to be AWESOME, but I have to be honest, I am a bit worried about the 1.5" squares.... ;D ...and I am choking on the fabric price... but I'll get over it.  My hubby does not care too much about the $$$ because it's for him :)  You see, I have to be tricky.

In addition to this little bit of fun fabric, my sister, Aly, and I hammered out the details for three quilts I will be making for her.  The first one will be for the wall in her living room made with Granny Squares in this fabric...
...and white.

The second quilt is for her bedroom.  It will be almost exactly like Kate's Over the Rainbow quilt.  We ordered 3 jelly rolls of Robert Kaufman's Tidbits and Treasures.

The third quilt is for her friend who has end stage breast cancer :(  I am going to do a raw edge applique with the scraps from my Retro Flower Quilt.

So that is all for my shopping exploits for today.  It's a good thing that Aly was paying today :D

Now, for the unveiling of the Red & White Pinwheel Quilt :)  Are you ready?

I did straight line quilting with my walking foot.  The pinwheel on the back measures 22" square.

I pieced the back to make the fabric I had work :)  Can you say "Frugal?" ... I mean CHEAP! ;D

I did the binding mostly with the red and white stripe, but then used the left over 2.5" strips from my mom's Red & White log cabin pillow from yesterday.

So, I couldn't help adding the bunnies for a bit of the photo shoot.  Isn't Baby Bunny cute?

Fatty had to get a shot in too :)

The finished quilt measures 59"x48"

The following pictures are close up's of the blocks.  WARNING!!! ...there are a million! ...as usual :)

This is my favorite section of the quilt :)

Easy Half Square Triangle Tutorial

Here is a mini picture tutorial of how to make the pinwheels.  Start with the squares in whatever size you'd like :)  These are 8" squares from my Modern Quilt Guild swap.  They make a 10" pinwheel.

You are going to need a contrasting fabric cut into the same size squares.

Next, place a white one with a print one together, right sides together.

Sew around all four sides with a 1/4" seam.

Then cut from corner to corner one way....

And without moving the square, cut the other way, corner to corner.

 Ta da!!

Now you have a bunch of cute triangles :)

Press toward the print... or the white, just press them all the same way :)

Now for trimming the little dog ears...

Lay them out.... be sure that you sew the blocks all in the same direction... trust me, it matters ;D

Take care to match all of your points and seams :)

  Here are my cute rows...

Here is the top all sewn and bunched up :)

The top is basted.

The back... ..yes!  That is a GIANT pinwheel :)

Quilting....

I have a little bit more quilting to do tomorrow....  stay tuned :D

Pinwheel Progress

I just have to make my red and white pinwheel quilt :)  Unfortunately, I ran out of Kona white, so I was only able to make about half of the blocks that I will need for this quilt :(
Tomorrow I am taking my kiddo's to my nieces birthday party and after that, my sister and I are taking a field trip to Hobby Lobby for the rest of her quilts supplies :) ....and more Kona white for me :)
Here is what I did Monday evening.
A cute pile of half square triangles :)
A cute pile of blocks :)
Here are the blocks that I did this evening.
Oh, and look what came in the mail Monday :)  My fat quarter bundle for my Mario Brothers quilt.  I was super silly and was thinking that the bundle had ALL of the fabric for the quilt top in it...NOPE... just the fat quarters required for the top.  I had to go back and order the rest of the fabric ($$$$) to make the top.  Oh well, I really should have thought it through a bit better and saved myself a second shipping charge :p
