Flying Geese Goose Me :/

Geeze Louise!!!  These flying geese gave me some serious grief!  First off, I cut out FOUR times as many white squares as I needed for the project :/  THEN, one side of the quilt was TWO inches smaller than the other 3 sides :/

After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I remedied all of the issues and FINALLY got two sides of geese sewn on. :)  Happy?  Well, almost!  I sewed the third side on THE WRONG DIRECTION :/

After staring at it for a long while, I unpicked all 85" of it, and fixed it.  I made sure to sew the final side on correctly.... I checked about 301 times ;D

Two more borders to go :)  One will either be stacked bricks or half square triangles.  The final border will likely be some kind of paper pieced castles with Heather Ross sleeping beauty corners.

I'd like to have this baby all finished so I can enter it into the Peteetneet quilt show this year.
(not sure it's gonna happen)

Happy Fathers Day!!! .... another finished quilt :)

I hope all of the dad's out there are having a special day today.  We made Scotch Eggs and hash browns for my sweet hubby today.  I am really blessed to have married a man who is such a wonderful father :)  I am also so blessed to have such an amazing dad myself.  My dad ROCKS!!  ...and because he is so cool, I made him a very special present :)  It was my dad's birthday a few days ago and so this quilt is doing double duty.
My dad is is major genealogy buff, so I thought civil war fabrics would be perfect for him :)
Here are the pictures :)

Several months ago, I brought a quilt that I had just finished over to my parents house.  It was the pink fairy toile quilt with grey minky on the back.  My dad sat there all afternoon with the blanket on him.  He requested a blanket with minky on the back.  He liked how cozy it was and how it didn't "slide" off of him ;D

I did a scrappy binding of small pieces of random civil war prints that I had in my stash.

This is my favorite star :)

I sure hope he likes it.  I do. My husband does.  My girls don't :(

I am going to be linking this up with Elizabeth and SHOW OFF FRIDAY over at a Pieceful Life :),  Sew Many Ways Find a Friend Friday and Sarah over at The Fabric Addict for CAN I GET A WHOOP WHOOP???

Frenzy Friday

...I really like alliteration :)
Today was hubbies day off so very little anything got done today ;)  I FINALLY finish my Creative Sewing block for March-

There is only one block and it really has the blue square in the middle, but it is supposed to be purple.  I didn't cut the purple correctly so I had to sub a blue scrap.  I am thinking that I am going to do a quilt of this block for my dad.  The block is from the Creative Sewing class last month.  It is made with the small flying geese ruler by quilt in a day.  I am too tired to capitalize ;D
I also cut my 8" blocks for the Broadbent's Modern Quilt Group tomorrow morning.  The fabric had to be red white or blue stripe.  I had a REALLY hard time finding fabric that I liked for this.  Here is what I came up with

I sure hope it is alright.  I can't wait to see what others brought.
Lastly, I was asked to be a guest blogger on Annie's Ruby Slipperz Saturday :)  What an honor!  Thank you Annie!!!  Head on over and check out Annie's AWESOME blog!
I think there was something else... hmmm... Oh yes!  My fabric came today in the mail from The Intrepid Thread!  I can't wait to cut into it :)  thank you thank you thank you!!!
Here is the picture of the fat quarter bundle.  I forgot to take a picture of it and am TOO tired to go do it now ;D
Sleep tight everyone!!

Chiseling away....

It was another busy day as usual... dr appt, helping with food for a funeral, 504 meeting for my son with the principal, laundry, dinner and the 4th ward quilt class.
But first I have to tell you the AWESOmE news.....
....I WON a prize from the Festival of Scrappiness :)   Here is what I won
I was SO shocked to see the email from the ladies that I nearly passed out!  THANK YOU Rachel (Stitched in Color) and Alice (Fresh Modern Fabric)!!!!  I can't wait to make something AWESOME!!!

Now for the regular boring stuff ;D
My 14 year old stayed home from school sick today so I had to banish her to her room so I could work on the bags.  I finished two more.  The last of the striped ones is about 30 minutes away from a finish.  I can't quite bring myself to get it done...well that is not true!  I can't find myself alone long enough to do it.  But here is the progress pictures.

This  messenger bag is for my 20 year old daughter.

I decided to add a tag to the back for hanging the bag

Anna's has an extra pocket aside from the long divided one along the bottom.

Here is a shot from of the back.

Here are two of them all cozy together :)  I had to rip one of the seams on the first one I made to add the tab.

Once the kids were home from school, I started sewing the pieces for the Stars of the Barnyard $29 quilt.
This is the pile of stuff :)

Here are the flying geese "pre- trimmed"

A few flying geese

A pretty stack of all of the centers of the blocks.

This is a quick shot of all of the block centers.
I tried to finish up the the flying geese tonight, but I am TOO tired!  I am off to bed!

A Busy Day...

Today was my son's birthday.  He got a reading lamp for his bed and his AWESOME quilt :)

See how cute he is all wrapped up in it. The weather even cooperated and was cold enough to need a blankie!
For my sewing antics, I started on the messenger bag for one of my daughters.  She wants a messenger bag with a dresden plate on the front of the flap.  I took pictures of what I did :)
This is the AWESOME ruler that I use.
Here are the blades all cut and wanting to be sewn...
Them in a pile ;D
chain sewing the tops together
look, they make a pretty wheel.
Cool wheel, eh?
These are the tweezers that I use to get the blades turned and nice and pointy.
After turning and pressing.
Laying around wanting to be joined in a neat ring!
Sewing them up :)
These are quiltsmart circles.  I LOVE them!  Easy peasy!
After all of my blades are sewn together, I coax all of the threads toward the center then I lay a circle of wonder under on the back and press. ...but not the hole.... I avoid pressing the center until the center circle is on the front....
Now I press my center circle, then press the center back...  Is that as clear as mud?
Dessert time!  This is a rainbow chip cake with split layers that are filled with Marionberries.  The frosting is chocolate cream cheese frosting.  My 6 year old wanted the peeps :) My 17 year old decorated it :)

Just FYI, these are my first flying geese EVER!  I love them.  they are SO cute!!!
I also cut out the top for the February $29 quilt.  I am going to sew that bad boy tomorrow!
