The Notting Hill Asterisk

(Are you ready for TOO many pictures?)

It is finished and on it's way to my customer.

I have to say that I don't want this one to leave my house, EVER!

The quilt pattern is "Modern Asterisk" by Kimberly Bourne (Get links HERE)

The majority of the fabric is from Joel Dewberry, specifically his Notting Hill Collection. (Get links HERE)

The quilting was done by the FABULOUS Stacy Simmons.

Stacy is OVER THE TOP ah-MAZING!!!

The top was all done with foundation piecing.

It was not difficult, but is was VERY time consuming.

I watched 6 episodes of Drop Dead Diva while I removed the paper from just the small asterisks :/

I am TOTALLY in love!

This quilt is for a customer back east.  It is for her sweet daughter.

I am really thinking about making one of these for myself.

...but it isn't likely to happen :(

For the binding & label, I used "Banded Bliss" from Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill Collection

The customer requested minky for the backing.

With all of the color choices available, we went with a soft butter yellow.

The soft yellow is perfect to compliment the crazy colors of the top.

I am going to miss this quilt!!

Quilt stats:
88" x 94"

Pattern: Modern Asterisk by Kimbery Bourne of Main Street Market Designs
Fabric:  Nearly all of the fabric was designed by Joel Dewberry from his Notting Hill Collection, ....and a few other of his collections.  Two of the chartreuse fabrics were not Joel's.
The white background fabric was "Bleached White" in the Bella Solid collection by Moda
Quilter: Stacy Simmons

Modern Asterisk READY for Quilting :)

The day has finally come to get this top all together :)  ...well, yesterday actually...

(I had to go out of town last week to help my daughter)

Section 1
So, this pattern is originally designed for a twin size bed, but my customer needs it to be queen size.

Section 1 & 2
With a few modifications, this pattern was easily modified to fit a queen size bed.

All three sections
My poor design wall was is NOT large enough, so the floor got enlisted ;)

One of the sections sewn up.
I arranged the blocks into three sections, according to the pattern, with a little shift in direction.

Two of the sections sewn up.
It went together REALLY quickly (THANK HEAVENS!) :-D

Ta-Da! All sewn!
Today, the top heads off to the quilter.  I cant wait!!

The finished size is 84" x 90".  I need it to be a titch larger so I added a 2" white border all of the way around.

I CAN'T WAIT (I know, I already said that ;))

Secret Book of Maps

When I first started quilting I called patterns maps.  Mainly because I need diagrams in order to make a quilt :-)

My sweet friend April made me a book of maps a few years ago.

It has graph paper inside :). I love it and use it every day!

I decided that I needed to make one for all of my quilts bffs.

I have a few more to make for other friends. I am loving them :-)

Qbx and Nmqg BOMs February

For February's NMQG bom, Lisa designed a cute little flower applique.

She taught another method, but I prefer back basting needle turn applique.

I worked on these while watching the Olympics.

See my cute little basting stitches.

February's blocks

All of the blocks together :)

Qbx February BOM

The February BOM for QBX was my assignment.

I decided to go with a dresden plate using the easy dresden ruler.

Dresden's are my favorite block :)

I use my curved tweezers to make my points come out nice and pointy ;D

All pinned down and ready to applique in place

I love the hand sewing part :)

Ta-Da!  Isn't she pretty!
