Birthday Milestone!

When I was pregnant with my 2nd son (my 5th child), my only request of the doctor was that he NOT be born on 9/11.   Due to this request my sweet boy was born on September 9th.  Not only was he born on 9-9 but he was born at 9 minutes to 9, a clever bit of trivia that my father-in-law pointed out :)  So this past Sunday he had his 9th birthday on the 9th day of the 9th month at 9 minutes to 9.  I shot this picture at that very moment...

Yes, he thinks I am weird :)

For his birthday I gave him his Moose Quilt.

He may be pretending to be excited just a little bit ;D  He did get other cool "boy" things.

A few months ago we bought him a new trick bike as an early birthday present.  We reminded him frequently that he already received his BIG present from us :)

One other thing that he wanted to do with his brothers for his birthday was to sleep in his big sisters bed while she is out of town.  ....SHHHhhhhh... don't let her know! ;D

We checked in on them in the middle of the night and this is how we found them :)

Happy Birthday to my sweet little 9 year old!  May you live to celebrate your 99th birthday :)

Mac's Moose Quilt is FINISHED :D

Super fun day :)  Among all of the fun I was able to get the binding on the quilt and get the pictures taken.  It really would be nice to have a better camera, and photography skills, but I am practicing playing the glad game :)  The colors are not great :(  Oh well, you'll get the idea ;D

The fabric is Back Country by Riley Blake.  It's super cute :)

I am going to be linking this up with Elizabeth and SHOW OFF FRIDAY over at a Pieceful Life :), TGIFF and Sarah over at The Fabric Addict for CAN I GET A WHOOP WHOOP???

Mac's Moose is QUILTED!

I decided to do a angular meander. ...that kinda sounds cool, eh?

FABULOUS moose minky!

There was a TON going on today so I am pretty pleased that I was able to get the basting and quilting finished today.  I timed myself, it took me 35 minutes to baste the quilt from start to finish.  It took me aobut 2 hours to quilt it.  The quilt is about 60"x 72".  Tomorrow is going to be SUPER busy too, so I have my fingers crossed that I can get the binding on.  This quilt is for my son's birthday in September.  He is my out-doorsie-hunting-army kid.  He should LOVE it :)
Have a happy weekend!

Mac's Moose is TOPPED! ...and a WINNER :)

Tuesday was CRAZY busy and so was Wednesday for that matter ;)  Today (Thursday) was shaping up to be another busy day but I still muscled my way through finishing this top ;)

These blocks were pretty simple and straight forward.  First I cut 6" by width of fabric strips of two different fabrics.  First you sew a strip of each fabric together, press.  Next you cut the long strip into 6" segments, flip them and make these blocks.

Next, using the 2.5" ruler, you line up the center seam with the center of the ruler and trim on both sides, 1.25".

Now, without moving anything (like DOnT SEPARATE THE fabric like shown in the above pic ;), place your ruler on the other center seam and cut the other way :)

Now you have a fun 9 patch.  Be sure to rotate the 4 rectangles.

Unless you are VERY organized, only cut and sew one block at a time.  I finally figured out a system with two cutting boards and ended up being able to chain piece most of the blocks :D

Piles of chain pieced blocks.

Here is my pile of finished blocks.  As luck would have it, I put one of the few blocks that had a really badly matched center to be on top of the pile :\  Oh well!  It's is good luck to have mistakes in your quilt :)

Here is the top finished with the stop border sewn on.

Both borders on, just needs a little basting and quilting and binding :D

I thought I might baste it tonight, but I am tired.  I seem to be such a wimp these days and two days of partying wares me down ;D

PS- the Winner of the EZ Dresden ruler is
#22 Karen O "Love that pinwheel quilt. That block and it's variations are some of my favorites. I would love to have the Dresden tool. Thank you for the chance!"

I will get Karen emailed in a few minutes here and the ruler off in the mail ASAP :)

Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway fun :)

A little bit....

I just seemed to be super busy Monday and didn't get as much sewing done as I would like to have.  I did get a few blocks of my son's Moose Quilt finished :D
First off, I finished trimming the large strips into 6" chunks so I could finish ALL of these blocks :)

Then, I did the magic trimming and rotating and PRESTO, I made 4 of these finished blocks out of 4 of the blocks above.
Now, I just have to keep turning the 4 patches at the top into these blocks until I have them all finished :)  I am thinking that I may be able to get this quilt all the way finished this week.  Maybe I should change my "to-do" list to just this one quilt so I can get the list all of the way completed ;)  ...but where is the fun in that?

So, today is my daughter's 18th birthday :)  We are having a surprise party for her tonight with 100 of her closest friends & family ;)  I also have my first piano lesson since I was about 9 years old this morning.  I hope to get a few more of those blocks finished here and there, but we shall see ;)

AND! I AM SO SORRY!!!! to everyone or anyone who tried to click on my link over at Lilly's linky party Monday.  I miss spelled "blogspot" and lets just say that the site that the misspelling sent everyone too was NAUGHTY!  Thank heavens someone figured out that it was me and let me know what I had done so I could email Lilly and have her remove it for me.  So, I am VERY sorry for sending y'all over to a porn site.  SORRY!!! :(  (Please feel free to laugh at me for doing this.  Even I have to admit, it's kinda funny.  If you know me it's even funnier ;) ...my hubby is on the floor laughing at me... well, he's actually on the floor looking under the bed for something, but he is still laughing ;D
