Austin's Quilt is FINISHED!! :)

This quilt pattern is based on Sassafras by Ribbon Candy Quilts of Etsy.... although I bought the quilt pattern at Gracie Lou's in Salem, Utah.  I used Sassafras for Reagan's quilt.  I used different measurements for the block elements but the basic idea was from this pattern.

Dreaming of Zippered Pouches...

ALL night I dreamed about making zippered pouches!  So what do you think I did first thing this morning?  I'll give you one hint- I am still in my jammies and it's 8:15pm ;D  Yes, I sewed ALL day!  ....well, that is not entirely true.  I did get the house clean with the help of my boys first.  THEN I sewed for the rest of the day.  Now, you may be saying, "Doesn't she have rules about getting dressed before sewing?"  and you'd be correct!     ..but, I had to wear make up and do my hair yesterday so I figured that I could slouch around today :)  (Yes, I know that I am pretty LAME!)
Now on to the zippered pouches.....
I used Crazy Mom Quilts tutorial HERE
The sizing is different for mine, but it is still pretty dang cute!!!
The front.

Pouch acting like a little sewing bag.

Pouch acting like a "sharps" container ;)

The back
After the pouch was finished I lazed about a bit before I got to work on  finishing Austin's quilt.   I have a few teaser pictures.  I'll take some out side tomorrow!

Quilting in progress...

My baby taking a nap under the freshly quilted and trimmed bankie.  Binding anyone?
After a few episodes of 24.....

I love the brown minky with it!

Austin is TOPPED!

I wasn't sure that I'd do any sewing today.  I woke up feeling pretty terrible :p  I made breakfast for all my boys (hubby too) and then headed out to visit my dad at the hospital.  He is doing well :)  When I got home I gave this quilt to my very dear friend, Jill

Once I got home, I dragged the boys to the store to buy some grey fabric for my Retro Flower Quilt back ground.  It's gonna look AWESOME!  I am so excited to get that cut out and sewn.  WHEN WILL THE PACKAGE COME WITH MY INVISI-GRIP!!!????
Anyway, as the evening wore on, I suddenly decided to get to work on Austin's quilt... well, I thought I was just going to cut it out, but here is what happened....
I cut it out and then sewed up all of the blocks....

Then I sewed up the blocks into rows.... and then the rows into a  top :)

This is the best shot of the colors.

Next came the stop border.
....and then finally the outer border.

I am pretty happy about this finish :)  Tomorrow I will buy the batting and backing and get this bad boy quilted & bound on Saturday.  It is only a little quilt, 50x60.  I am going to back it with brown minky.  It's pretty much going to ROCK!!!

Ashley's Topped

I finished this quilt top late last night :)  YIPPEE!!!  It's been cut out for a LONG time!  I seem to think that I don't want to quilt this today.  I am not sure what color thread to use.  It will probably have to be white or cream.  Hmmmmm......
I am off to go see my dad.  He had knee replacement on Tuesday.
Have a GREAT Thursday!
Quilting plans for the rest of this week....
AUSTIN's Quilt!

I hope to at least get it cut out and the top sewn.  It's going to be a simple patchwork, similar to Reagan's quilt, except bigger squares and no chenille flowers.  Maybe a chenille block or two ;)  Austin is blind and severely autistic.  Texture is everything to him.  His mom picked fabric that she likes but is masculine enough for a 16 year old boy ;D  Hopefully he will like this quilt.  He has gone places with a pink quilt because it is the right weight, size and texture ;D  My sil doesn't care much what color it is, so long and Austin is happy :)

I also found a group of new quilt bloggers that are linking together to support each other :)  Link back and check out all of the new enthusiasts!  marciascraftysewing.blogspot.com

WIP Wednesday...so much to do, so little time....

Here's what's in the works for the rest of the week.
I would like to finish Ashley's All Fenced in quilt by Thursday night, but before she comes home on Sunday.  Here is what I've got going so far on Ash's quilt...
The blocks waiting to be sewn.
Sewn, pressed and starched blocks waiting for trimming.
Trimmed blocks waiting for sewing all together to make a FABULOUS quilt :D
I'd also like to get on top of Austin's quilt...

and Corrine's zigzag quilt...

All three of these quilts should be done next week.  Well, I should say that Austin's NEEDS to be done next Friday because he's coming to town to get it ;D  I suppose I could chill and just do one quilt a week and that would be fine ;)
Oh, I'd like to make some make zippered make-up bags for the girls.

WAIT- STOP THE PRESSES!!!  I need to finish cutting out my retro flower quilt!

The fabric I bought for the background is HORRIBLE, so I need to get some new fabric.  What do you think about using grey for the background instead of white?  Hmm... I think grey might be pretty cool.  I am also waiting for the invisi-grip to come in the mail from JoAnn.com along with a bunch of thread and a gallon of Best Press.  I have a serious crush on that stuff!
I think that is all for my WIP Wednesday.  I am linking up with Freshly Pieced for

Saturday Shopping

I was shopping with my Sister in Law at Gracie Lou's on Saturday to buy fabric to make a quilt for her son, Austin.  He lost his blankie and needs a new one.  Here is the fabulous fabric that we chose for him.  Austin is blind, so we went more with what Kristine likes as she will have to look at it ;)  It's going to have minky on the back for sure ;D  While we were there, the AWESOME sales clerk showed us how to fold fabric to cut it on the bias quickly and easily.  Here is the photo demo.  I am so glad that I brought my camera :D
This post is possessed!!  Step #1 is stuck down in between step # 4 and #5 :p  I have given up trying to move it for tonight ;)
Step #2
Step #3
Step #4, trim off the top of the fold.
This is Step #1 :)
Step #5  Cut the width you like using the previously trimmed edge as your guide.

While we were getting checked out, I noticed a "Sale" table.  I wandered over only to find this kit I have been eyeing since January.  It was 25% off so I BOUGHT IT!!! :D  I am sOOOOOOo excited!!!!
