Ford's Quilt is FINISHED!!

The binding all piled on the floor waiting to be sewn on.
My 14 year old held this up so I could snap a quick shot.  I LOVE it!  ...now I know that's a shock ;D  I am pretty sure that my son will love it too!

Grey dimple minky for the back per my son's request.
I decided to go with the walking foot this time.  I had fun with this one and it was pretty quick too.  It's finished size is 60x78.  Perfect for a growing boy!

Ford's Quilt is nearly finished:)

Here is Ford's quilt all laid out on the living room floor. It took me a bit longer than I thought it would to get it right. It's not perfect, but as several friends told me, "Don't think too much!" :)

To aide me in sewing and to keep things straight, I pin a label to each row.

Here is a shot of most of the rows.

Here is the top all sewn. The quilt was a little too short so I added a 5" border on the ends. I wasn't sure what to do. This 2.5 wide stripe border looks great! The colors are better in this lower picture. I have a blue minky backing for it, but I am not sure I like it. I'll think on it for a bit ;)

Busy, Busy, Busy :)

This is the quilt the 5th ward is doing next week....
I had a ton to do today, so I didn't get sewing very early :(  I did, however, stay up late last night sewing the rest of Ford's blocks up.  Kate and I hit a few quilts shops today and eventually found three grey prints for the cute quilt I am doing for the 5th wards quilting class next week.  It is supposed to look very different, but I have a habit of changing everything around to be another quilt all together.  I wonder if they will toss me out of the class for being rouge every month ;)  My first alteration came when I decided to use chenille for the hearts.  Because chenille is so thick, I was going to just applique them straight over the block.  Next I decided that I wanted it to be longer and a bit wider.  Once I had it all altered and sewed, well the main panel anyway, I decided that I'd rather have flowers and no hearts.  I'll add three more flowers tomorrow.  I am saving this quilt to work on when the kids are awake.

My fabric for the 5th ward quilt.  Note the cute grey's I bought today :)
My expanded version of the center panels.  It still needs the final grey and pink borders.
PS- the back of this quilt will be grey minky.
So, once the kiddo's went to sleep, I pulled out Ford's blocks to get them all trimmed.  He can't see his birthday surprise :)  They are going to be so cute!  Yes, I do say "cute" a lot.  I am having a serious love affair with fabric and quilting.  It is making a much better mistress than food ;D

The sewn blocks before trimming.
Post trimming.  Doesn't that look so nice and neat? ;)

Stacked neat
I love the look of trimmed piles of fabric!

Sunday Sick and Sitting

The layer cake pattern I am using

Little Apples Quilt Project Sheet

A pizza box? ...or something more yummy.....
Yep!  Something MUCH more delicious than food :)
Isn't this a pretty little layer cake.... or should I say pizza stack?
These are SO cute!!!
The quilt pattern is a layer cake patters.  I bought a 1/3rd yard of 9 fabrics.  I need 5 more.  Each third yard will yield 4- 10" squares.  My mom is going to help pick out some lighter blues to tie in the blue minky and the light blue chenille.  I chose some fabrics from the new Reunion line by Moda.  DANG cute!!!

Just a shopping and chillin' day

I didn't get any sewing done today, but I bought the fabric for Ford's birthday quilt :)  I also took the girls shopping for clothes... and a few for me.. A hint for the future, don't take teenagers shopping for clothes for yourself and expect them to help you figure out whats cute on you :)

Little Apples Quilt Project Sheet,
I'm using this for Ford's Quilt
I had a CRAPPY migraine this morning so I went internet fabric shopping.  I really wanted to check out the Jelly Rolls that I have heard so much about.  They are VERY expensive.... at least to me they are.  I found these two on sale.  I also got sucked into a Christmas quilt for next year and a darling quilt pattern.  Simple and cute.  I found these all at  http://www.quiltablefabrics.com/.  I am planning on having a bunch of fun!!  I also signed up for another quilt class at church :)  The teacher is dropping off the fabric tonight at my house.  I'll post a picture tonight :)  I am still working away at trimming up all of the half square triangles.  Boy, it is going to take me a while!  I am hoping to be done with it in the next day or so, so I can get that bad boy pieced :)  I did design the pattern for it because I have decided to do it "on point."  I learned this term as I was surfing the net looking for a pattern to follow.  It will be a bit tricky, but I think I'll prefer it in the end :)
