The Pink Grey Flower Quilt is FINISHED!

I finished the binding on my way up to my moms house Saturday morning. I was so excited that I didn't get car sick :) My dad had not seen any of my quilts or my blog and he really enjoyed having this quilt on his lap while I subjected him to a view at my blog. He was very impressed. So was my brother, who had stopped by with his youngest two children. My dad asked me if I'd make him one. I think I need to make him one out of the Going Coastal line that I have been drooling over ;) Here are all of the pics, minus one that seems to have been left off. I think this is Picasa's way of telling me I post too many pictures ;) xo Have a great sunday! It is so quite here. We only have one of our daughters home. All of the rest of them stayed over with the cousins and my parents, in various combinations ;D

Here is the stray.  I just didn't select it :(  My bad.  These are the "daisies" I did on the inner grey border.

Almost finished...

Today I had a hard time trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Should I make another purse? Should I make a table runner? Should I sew Ashley's quilt top? Maybe make the cover for my sewing machine? In the end I opted to finish the Pink and Grey quilt. I am 98% sure that I can give this one away. I am feeling good about it. We shall see :) After making my quilt sandwich (which I LOVE) and basting it (which I DON'T love), I had to make a commitment to how I wanted to quilt it. Because the backing minky is so textured (and was SO expensive) I thought I should maybe not obscure it with a lot of fmq. I decided to use my walking foot and straight stitch around the boxes and do a little floral stuff in the grey inner borders. I wasn't sure what to do in the outer pink border. I ended up doing straight stitching there. I am officially IN LOVE with the binding fabric. I love the grey and white with a leaf print. I made the binding a bit scrappy by adding pieces of the pinks in between the strips of grey and white. I used Konda's binding "finish it up" technique.

Here is a large daisy/rose. It's just like the one's on Vintage Eva.

I fmq'd daisies round the inner grey border and rose/big daisies around the outer grey border.

I did quilt around the chenille flowers.

The straight stitches around all of the blocks.

A nice shot of the binding sewn to the quilt.

One of the smaller chenille flowers quilting. I haven't trimmed the stray thread yet ;D

This is a good shot of the minky texture.

Quilting and texture.

All folded neatly waiting for me to finish the binding in the morning :) The grey minky is the same color as the leaves in the binding fabric.

Another quilt top is finished :)

I really like this sweet quilt. The applique was not fun and looks lousy. I am hoping with the quilting, it will end up ok. I may actually sell this one on etsy. I am planning on backing this with grey minky.
I really LOVE the Henry Alexander Fairy Toile on the border. I bought it several years ago for the girls room. I have 7.5 more yards of it, so every little girl quilt I make will have some of the cuteness. I just can't tell you how much I LOVE fabric :) I have become hopelessly addicted!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy :)

This is the quilt the 5th ward is doing next week....
I had a ton to do today, so I didn't get sewing very early :(  I did, however, stay up late last night sewing the rest of Ford's blocks up.  Kate and I hit a few quilts shops today and eventually found three grey prints for the cute quilt I am doing for the 5th wards quilting class next week.  It is supposed to look very different, but I have a habit of changing everything around to be another quilt all together.  I wonder if they will toss me out of the class for being rouge every month ;)  My first alteration came when I decided to use chenille for the hearts.  Because chenille is so thick, I was going to just applique them straight over the block.  Next I decided that I wanted it to be longer and a bit wider.  Once I had it all altered and sewed, well the main panel anyway, I decided that I'd rather have flowers and no hearts.  I'll add three more flowers tomorrow.  I am saving this quilt to work on when the kids are awake.

My fabric for the 5th ward quilt.  Note the cute grey's I bought today :)
My expanded version of the center panels.  It still needs the final grey and pink borders.
PS- the back of this quilt will be grey minky.
So, once the kiddo's went to sleep, I pulled out Ford's blocks to get them all trimmed.  He can't see his birthday surprise :)  They are going to be so cute!  Yes, I do say "cute" a lot.  I am having a serious love affair with fabric and quilting.  It is making a much better mistress than food ;D

The sewn blocks before trimming.
Post trimming.  Doesn't that look so nice and neat? ;)

Stacked neat
I love the look of trimmed piles of fabric!
