Karen's Quilt is FINISHED :)

Ta Da!!! :)

In 2009, my friend Chrisann's mother, Karen,  passed away.

This quilt was made for Chrisann's brother Terry.

Terry's wife, Ruth chose the pattern from one of my first quilts.

I used some of Karen's clothes to make the quilt.

I made one for their father last Christmas.  Blogged HERE.

For the back, I used a grey chevron minky.

The quilt is for Terry's birthday :)

Construction notes:  I used Pellon featherweight fusible stabilizer on the back of the knits.  I thought it was the same kind I had bought before , but it was not :/  This stabilizer was to thick.  It made for very difficult and laborious quilting.  I ended up breaking THREE needles while quilting it.

Suppose #onthehollow Sew Day

Last Friday I was able to head up to Idaho with Konda for a quilting adventure.

She picked me up early Friday, and we hit as many quilts shops between Provo and Logan as we could.

We stayed the night at her WONDERFUL Aunt Liz's home in Whitney, Idaho.  (It was so amazing to be pampered by her aunt)

Saturday morning we headed into Preston, Idaho for a quilt day at the home of the owners of the FANTASTIC quilt shop Suppose.  It was a BLAST!!!

I worked on this....

(I have been saving my strings ever since I began quilting 18 months ago)

(I seriously have enough strings to make 30 king sized quilts)

...out on the fabulous deck over looking this meadow.

It was OVER-THE-TOP AWESOME!!!  I will go again for sure!!!

Karen's no-so Flimsy

I was finally able to get Karen's quilt cut out :)  Here are a few shots of the stacks of quilt pieces :)

...and from the other direction  ;D

Here is the top all pieced.

I am thinking about a few borders... maybe a thin red print border (like 1.5") and then a wider navy/black one (about 4-5").

Any thoughts?

(Red, white and blue are not my colors of choice, but this sure is clean and slick looking!)

Another Karen Quilt

Remember last year, right before Christmas, when I made a quilt for my friend, Chrisann who's mother had passed away?  Remember, I used her mom's, Karen, clothes?  (Blogged HERE)

Well, I am making another quilt out of Karen's clothes for Chrisann's brother.

I am busy chopping and stabilizing :)

I'll keep you posted!

SLMQG Pillow Swap

In June the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild had a 20" pillow swap.  I couldn't make it that night, but last night there was a "make up" swap.

I had a mini charm pack of Coma and cracked it open to see what I could come up with.

A granny square formed itself on my floor ;)

I added in some extra green and orange and black to get my square to 22".
(Can you guess what the exterior text fabric is?)

For the quilting I did an orange peel fmq.

Ta da!!!  A cute sofa pillow :)

For the back I used Half Moon in black.

Here it is being all cute on the guest bed.

The sad news is that no one else brought a finished pillow to swap :(

I brought my pillow home to wait for next month :)

...or maybe, I'll just keep it!

No Girls ALLOWED Chef Aprons

...a little delay on the post here....

...but, for Father's Day, I made all of the men on my side of the family chef aprons with my Dad's new cookbook logo on them :)

I bought the aprons at San's Club.

I ordered the fabric from Spoonflower.com

The men all loved their new aprons :D

You can order my dad's cookbook HERE!

Needle Turn Applique Sampler

At the Peteetneet Quilt show this year, I attended an template free, back basting, needle turn applique class by Pasty Wall.  She is an AMAZING quilter and artist!

(notice the "Dr. Seuss" Style star points ;) ...I'm told I'll get better with time)

She provided everyone in the class a sample to make.  I went right home and got to work!!!

I decided to turn it into a little wall hanging for my sewing room :)

Not bad for a first time attempt?

I am pretty sure sure I am in love with this technique ;)

Katie's Medallion

WARNING!!! Katie Gardner, DO NOT READ THIS POST!!!! Turn away from the screen now!!! ;D

I got to work right away this month on border #2 for Katie's round robin medallion.

Annette added the AWESOME green flying geese zig-zag border.

In an attempt to draw out the green zig-zag and mellow out the business a bit, I added two very small, simple borders of aqua and green.

Annette's Medallion

WARNING!!!  Annette, you may NOT look at this post!!!  Do not go any further!!! :)

My first border to add was to my dear friend Annette's medallion.

I added a template free, needle turned applique saw tooth border.

It's not perfect, but neither am I ;D

I got the idea from Megan Legas last year at the Peteetneet Quilt show.  Megan was the featured artist last year, BRILLIANT QUILTER!!!  I couldn't make the teeth look good using what I remembered of her technique, so I applied Patsy Wall's technique that she taught me at the quilt show this year and it worked REALLY well!!! :)

Round Robin Medallion

My quilting bff's & I decided to do a medallion round robin for fun :)  We each have made our center and are now passing it along to all of our friends over the next year.

Here is my center.

I pass to Emily, so she now has it and is working her magic on it.

I can't wait to see this when it is finished!!!
