Ombre Triangles

My daughters best friend is marring my daughters husbands twin brother.  (Did you follow that?)

So, of course, I HAD to make her a quilt!

Jazmin's favorite color is purple :)

I have had this cut of fabric for a few years.  It is a single piece with all 6 shades of purple printed on it.  I used a 60 degree triangle ruler to cut out the triangles.  I LOVE sewing with them.  They behave just like squares, pretty much ;)

As per tradition, I had to add in some special words in the quilting just for them.

Jazmin also loves turquoise with her lovely lavenders.

It is such a happy quilt for the lovebirds!

For the backing I used some wild and AWESOME fabric from April's 1970 basement stash!

Bacon BACON Quilt

Oh yeah!  You read that correctly!!  It's a BACON quilt!

My sweet quilting BFF, Barbie, over at The Quilting Mill designed this FANTASTIC quilt!

For my quilting I decided on a wavy organic line.  I really like the BACON feel of it ;)

For the back ground I searched the clearance shelves for the perfect fabric.  (I am NOT spending $12 per yard for backing... unless it's minky ;))

For the binding, Barbie came up with the idea to make a scrappy bacon binding on the bias.

It pretty much ROCKS!!!

This quilt is for my hubby for Christmas, but first it is getting entered into  the Nebo Modern Quilt Guilds Simply Solids Challenge.  All entries will be on display at Gracie Lou's in Salem Utah to be voted on by customers :)  Be sure to stop by the store and check them all out!

The Red & White Modern Block Swap

A few months ago a few (16) of my quilty BFFs and I decided to do a red and white modern block exchange.

We each made 32 -4.5" blocks , 16 -8.5" blocks to exchange and as many 12.5" blocks as we would like to exchange. 

I decided to make the asterisk block I made for my pink and green medallion for my 4.5" block. 

The method naturally makes two different color ways :-)

For the 8.5" block I decided to make a variation with my easy deaden ruler. 

Yes, it is virtually a dead ringer for Japan's flag of war ;-). I was thinking pepermint candy.  Oh well!

These were really fun to make :-)

I had a hard time making the circles centered when I trimmed them. 

What to use for the center?  Big circles? Small?  Medium!  Red or white?

My ig friends helped me choose medium red :-)

I wasn't sure I would have time to make any 12" blocks. I tried this one with flying geese and fell in love!

I made five of them all together :-)

I especially love the pinwheel that the flying geese made in the center :-)

I am on my way to meet the group to swap blocks. I can't wait to see them all!!!

Pst... I'm back from lunch and here are the AMAZING ladies...

...and all of the AWESOME blocks...

I really don't have time to deal with these until January. Let's see how long I can hold out ;-)

Nanna's Chili Sauce

I was a little girl the first time I tasted my great grandmothers chili sauce recipe.  We called her Nanna. 

My grandmother, Marion Smith Nelson used to make it in cute little half pint jars. 

My cousins used to call it sweet salsa. My own children love it on scrambled eggs, as do I ;-)

I love canning, especially when my family LOVES what I make...and when they help out with the process ;-)

Sew Together Bag on Steriods ;-)

It is no mystery that I am in love with Sewdemented's pattern for her Sew Together Bag!  I have made several.

My sister loved mine and wanted one for herself, but she needed a little more room.

I added a few more inches here and there to the pattern to make a bag my sister could carry diapes and wipes in ;-)

The fabric is from the collection Terra Australis. I LOVE it!!!

Glamping K Pouch

(That sounds so much better than the Wee Wander P Pouch!!!)

My sweet niece Kenzie ended up in the hospital with an emergency appendectomy yesterday :(

Fortunately they got it before it ruptured :-)

I thought a fun little zippered pouch would be perfect for her recovery :-)
