Sunday Up-date

Yesterday while I was at Broadbent's I bought some cool stuff :)
I have been wanting to buy some 505 to try using the spray basting method.  Now I am all ready :)

I also ran out the the dye catchers and had heard about this product, Synthrapol, to use for washing fabric and keeping the dye from bleeding onto the lighter fabrics.

So, how did it work?  Well, the instructions say to fill the washing machine with HOT water and add 1-2 teaspoons if Synthrapol to the washer.  I did it and CRINGED as I added my red and white pinwheel quilt and my Little Apples Dresden plate table runner.  RED RED RED!!!  ....I watched the water turn pink..... so I just shut the lid on the washer and ran away.
So, I know you are dying to find out what happened.  TWO red and white quilts in HOT water....

PERFECTION!!  Not a hint of pink anywhere :D  YEEHAW!!!  My table runner looks awesome too :)

I also washed, in separate loads, my Retro Flower Quilt and the Granny Square Quilt.  All on hot with a warm rinse.  Life it good!!!

I LOVE quilts after they have been washed.  They are so soft and crinkly :)

Now for today's adventures.  I woke up early and spoke in another church and visited another one.  Busy fun day.  I decided to try my hand at some hand quilting.  I have been wanting put some hand quilting onto Ashley's All Fenced In Quilt.  My fingers are sore, so I figured I'd blog :)  Here are some pictures of what I have done so far :)

It's going to been really cool when I'm done.  I just hope my fingers get used to hand quilting so I can do it for longer periods of time.

  1. You will love 505! funny thing. when I first tried this technique, I saw a video of a lady doing this on her design wall. She didn't want the sticky residue on her wall, so she put up newspaper all around the quilt on the wall to catch the spray. So, I thought, I can lay newspaper all around my quilt on my kitchen floor and spray and I won't have a sticky floor. Wellllll, I can't reach the middle of the quilt so I step onto the newspaper and spray and move around and spray some more and when I move around to spray some more quess what is on my bare feet---sticky newspaper!!! and if I try to move and get the newspaper off, I just stick to something else. yikes! Now i have this all refined, and I don't stick to anything and I love not having to run into pins I need to remove as I quilt. :) Annette

  3. I use 505 and I love it! Let us know how it worked out for you! I'll buy the Synthrapol too, I have a batik fabric that I washed at least 10 times and it's still bleeding a little... I like it so much I don't want to just throw it out. I'm happy your quilts turned out nicely after the wash,I don't know if I would've been brave enough... good for you! Way to go on the hand stitching, I'm amazed that you're quilting through minky fabric!
