I LEARNED TO KNIT TODAY!!!

I suppose the title of my blog post today gives away the big finale of today's post... oh well.
Today was FULL of TONS of good news.  First off, as I was checking out all of the blogs that I stalk this morning, I noticed that over at Maureen Cracknell Handmade, she had posted a winner to the Intrepid Thread Giveaway and it was ME!!  I just about died!  THANK YOU, MAUREEN AND INTREPID THREAD  for the AWESOME fat quarter bundle that Julie put together for the QuiltCon Block Challenge.
I really can hardly believe it.  This is the second fat quarter bundle I have won in the past few weeks and I am in SHOCK!  Thank you again, Maureen and Julie for a WONDERFUL gift :)  I can't wait to get it in the mail!!!  Oh, my imagination is running WILD!
Secondly, my sweet sister came by for a visit and to pick out the backing for the quilt that I am making for her bedroom.  I forgot to take a shot of it, but I should be sewing quilting it on Thursday... I hope... so you can see it then.  Today I finished cutting out the cream fabric and sewed the blocks...
A LONG chain/pile of blocks

A neat pile of blocks that want to be pressed..

Pretty pressed blocks... a little blurry, sorry :(

Tomorrow morning, I am planning on laying them out and sewing them together.  :)
Lastly, I went over to my friend, Suzy's house and she taught me how to knit.  She taught me continental style and I DID IT!!!  I have tried to learn to knit so many times, but the yarn direction always made my crazy and I couldn't do it without someone sitting right next to me :(  Here is my first attempt...
We lovingly call it a diet coke cozy ;D  My 17 year old calls it a rectangle.  My hubby thinks I am weird!  So after I made this one, I went home (with some of Suzy's needles) and started on this "scarf" or possibly another rectangle or maybe a snake cozy???
It should end up a scarf.  On Thursday, Suzy and I are going on a field trip to find self striping yarn so I can make myself a pair of socks :)  She is certain that I can do it.  I am far LESS certain ;)  I hope that she is right :)  I really love the knitted socks that my mil sent my hubby from Germany that I promptly stole from him.... fair and square, I might add.  I sent my mom a picture of my knitting (she knit's) and she wondered if I was done with quilting.  I promptly replied "NO!  I just need something to do when my hubby wants to watch a movie with me and NOT listen to my sewing machine clatter."
Have a GREAT middle of the night and a pleasant tomorrow.... wait, is that from SNL?

  1. Good for you on your knitting success. One of my quilting buddies taught me to knit a few years ago at one of our get-togethers and I love it. I also tried several times to learn prior to that but got frustrated, but with her help and guidance I was able to learn after all.

  2. I love knitting socks and have used several of Knitpicks self-striping yarns and I love their needles too. (Knitpicks is on line--a relative of Connecting Threads.) Yes, for me knitting is for when I need to sit still and not make noise! It's nice to be able to make quilts *and* socks!

    1. Thanks, Deborah! ...as for the knitting, I am not kidding when I say, "if I can do it, you can do it" I am seriously directionally challenged. I cant do anything right when it comes to over under around and through. You can do it ;)

  7. I sometimes knit more than I quilt just because it's so portable! I can sit in front of the TV and relax! I'm actually working on a pair of socks right now! They're fast and fun to make!

  8. I am a crocheter, put have not had the time, put I have notice of the last couple of years, that quilters are big knitters. If they cannot carry their sewing machines with them to quilt, then they knit.

  9. Hi Marion, first of all, CONGRATULATIONS! You're one lucky girl winning all those fat quarters. Of course I read your blog where you get it first, so now I know you've won them. I don't blame you not to be able to learn to knit the "American" way, I think it's too complicated. The continental way is a lot easier! I can knit sweaters (I used to do commission when I was in high school), but I've never tried sucks. Let me know how it turns out, I'm inspired to try it, but it would involve buying more knitting needles and of course... YARN! :)
